Modern-day Arlington was part of Fairfax in Virginia during the colonial period. Later on, European colonists arrived throughout the 1600s. The area was first associated with Robert E. Lee’s family. After his death, it was under the hold of Robert’s wife Mary Anna Custis Lee. Later on, the US government seized the property. Now, the Arlington National Cemetery is located in that former home. 1. Arlington National Cemetery: It is a place of profound historical significance, is the final resting place for more than 400,000 service members and their families, including President John F.
